The membership badge is the first badge earned by a Cub Scout; he or she must lean about the promise and law so that he or she might be invested. Other badges signify that a Cub has been in Scouting for a so defined period of time.

There are seventy Activity badges. These badges are to further develop the skills and interest of the Scout. These badges are to compliment the balanced programme. A Scout is not expected to achieve all badges, instead the Scout may pick the badges that appeal to him or her.
