The history of the Orion
The Mk3 Orion was launched in September 1990 as a base 1.4, 1.6, LX or Ghia. Shortly afterwards the Efi engined GLX & Ghia models were released and in 1991 the encore model followed.
In January 1992, the new smooth 16v Zetec engine was introduced to the range in 1.6 90ps and 1.8 105ps in LX & Ghia form and in February the 1.8 130ps Ghia Si model. This more powerful model which was only obviously distinguished from the 105ps model by 260mm discs all round in lieu of 240mm discs and rear drums, a firmer suspension set up and an engine bay sticker only survived until the Autumn of 1992 due to spiralling insurance costs, and was replaced by the 105ps version in Mk3b format.
